They were soldiers from Virginia who went missing in action.
SPEAKER: Mayburn Hudson.
BILLY SHIELDS: Six men who were lost in Korea, Europe and the Pacific.
One was a man of color.
SPEAKER: David Walker.
BILLY SHIELDS: Some were lost before an adult photo could be taken.
SPEAKE: Hubert Yeary.
BILLY SHIELDS: Others had no known photos at all.
SPEAKER: Harold D. Wilder.
BILLY SHIELDS: The remains of these soldiers were found over the past year in these far off places.
The Virginia War Memorial honored their memory on POW/MIA Day.
Their discoveries, the result of meticulous searching and lab testing in foreign countries.
It's almost an unprecedented number of recoveries.
CLAY MOUNTCASTLE: Just by circumstance, a large number of Virginians were identified in the past year.
And it's really a great day to be able to add six gold stars to our MIA wall and let our visitors know that those Virginians have been identified.
No longer are- and are no longer missing.
BILLY SHIELDS: There are more than 80,000 Americans currently listed as MIA.
About 1,200 of them are from Virginia.
