Richmond Public Schools is opening food distribution sites as the district closes for the week
Richmond’s School Superintendent Jason Kamras announced the district wouldn’t reopen schools this week. RPS also opened food distribution sites to help feed those who rely on school breakfast and lunch programs for sustenance.

So RPS teamed up with nonprofit Feed More to set up food distribution sites.
ANGELA JONES: We knew as this was wanning on that our families who count on schools to be open for food - breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner - were going to be in need.
ADRIENNE HOAR McGIBBON: About 65% of Richmond students rely on their school for food.
ANGELA JONES: We're a school division that actually feeds all of our students for free, through our feeding program.
And so we do have many, many students who count on our- the public schools to get them their- a good warm breakfast and lunch and often even backpack dinners to go home on the backpack weekend programs.
ADRIENNE HOAR McGIBBON: The city set up distribution sites in Cardinal and Henry Marsh elementary schools, and school staff and volunteers are delivering food to those who can't drive in.
Right now, RPS says it's working on a plan to provide food for students to help sustain them through the weekend.
